Ken Bible

Mr. Kenneth Bible retired from federal service as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the Department of Homeland Security in 2024, having served the nation for nearly four decades - eleven of which as a federal senior executive. He presently serves as a Director for Crytica Security, Inc.; an Advisory Board member for SMPL-C, Inc.; and was named Distinguished Visiting Professor of Cybersecurity at Limestone University. Upon becoming DHS CISO in January 2021, Mr. Bible’s efforts secured and strengthened the cybersecurity posture across DHS and its component agencies. Mr. Bible’s accomplishments were notable due to his focus on strengthening the internal governance of cybersecurity across the Department - implementing innovative approaches in multiple program areas including Cyber Supply Chain Risk Management, quantifying agency cyber risk, and leveraging external researchers to bolster system hardening.  Mr. Bible became a federal senior executive in 2013 when he was selected as the U.S. Marine Corps Chief Technology Advisor. Subsequently in 2015, he was appointed to the Senior Executive Service (SES) as the U.S. Marine Corps Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Deputy Director for Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4).  Mr. Bible’s career began as a nuclear engineer at the former Charleston Naval Shipyard, in Charleston, SC, where he designed and supported a range of nuclear submarine overhaul systems for nearly a decade, concluding with substantial environmental engineering contributions associated with the Charleston base closure. He then transitioned into the technology field for the U.S. Navy at Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), now Naval information Warfare Command, serving both in field activity leadership roles as well as being the first Assistant Program Executive Officer (PEO) for Enterprise Information Systems for headquarters. His individual awards include the Department of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service medal presented in 2021, and the Presidential Rank Award of Distinguished Executive conferred in 2023. Mr. Bible holds Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Engineering from Virginia Tech and the University of South Carolina, respectively. He served as a member of the Department of Defense Acquisition Community Professional Corps, and a certified acquisition professional for over 20 years. He has been licensed as a professional engineer for 31 years.
