Rick Markley

Rick Markley is executive editor of CRACKYL Magazine, an independent content consultant through OnFyre LLC, editorial director for Hazmat Nation, a volunteer editor for Firefighter Close Calls, a former editor-in-chief of two firefighting publications, and a fire service grant writer. He also is a volunteer firefighter/EMT, certified fire investigator, and fire and life safety educator. Rick serves on the boards of Science Alliance (a firefighter health and wellness research organization), Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance, and the International Fire Relief Mission (a humanitarian aid organization that delivers unused fire and EMS equipment to firefighters in developing countries), where he was its director of communication. He has logged more than 15 years as an editor-in-chief and written numerous articles on firefighting. Additionally, he’s been an editor in three business-to-business sectors and worked as a newspaper journalist. He has served as a visiting professor at Purdue University and serves on Purdue’s communication department advisory board. He is currently assisting the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) promote the National Fire Registry for Cancer. Rick holds a bachelor's degree in communications and a master’s degree in fine arts.
