U.S. Customs and Border Protection Seeks Public Input on the Future of Trade

On March 1, 2019, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Trade will hold a 21st Century Customs Framework (21CCF) public meeting at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Herbert Hoover Auditorium, in Washington, D.C. This meeting give the public an opportunity to comment on numerous aspects of CBP’s trade mission to better position CBP to operate in the 21st century trade environment. The 21CCF initiative was announced by CBP Commissioner Kevin K. McAleenan at the 2018 Trade Symposium held August 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia.

During the public meeting, a government executive panel will hear public comments from importers, brokers, and other private sector trade stakeholders on the following themes: Emerging Roles in the Global Supply Chain; Intelligent Enforcement; Cutting-Edge Technology; Data Access and Sharing; and 21st Century Processes. CBP will consider public input on these themes as it explores policy, regulatory, and statutory improvements as part of the Office of Trade’s 21st Century Customs Framework (21CCF) initiative.

“Healthy and competitive 21st century supply chains can be supported by effective and efficient customs administrations. CBP wants to target the best opportunities we have to strengthen the trade environment by working with our partners across government and in the private sector,” said Brenda B. Smith, Executive Assistant Commissioner, Office of Trade. “We are looking forward to this day of discussion to highlight the long-term initiatives that we should undertake to support economic security.”
