UK MoD Awards Iceni Labs Contract to Develop Human Detection Technology

Iceni Labs has been awarded a £248,400 contract under the UK Defence and Security Accelerator scheme to develop a pilot project for SafeScan, its handheld human presence detection system. Trials will begin this summer with the UK Ministry of Defence.

SafeScan is a handheld Ultra-Wide-Band radar system capable of detecting movement, position and breathing rate of humans through a variety of barriers. A medical version of the system is currently undergoing clinical trials at Royal Papworth Hospital to provide further validation of its ability to accurately detect respiration rate changes.

Alexander Giles, Commercial Director of Iceni Labs commented, “This is a great step forward for a system that we believe fulfils an important capability gap for our armed forces. We are excited to have the opportunity to further develop the technology in partnership with potential end users to ensure it delivers exactly what they need.”.
