  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and continuous monitoring were deployed to safeguard federal systems.

2. Advancing Technology Modernization: The Technology Modernization Fund (TMF), a cornerstone of IT improvement efforts, has invested over $1 billion across 69 projects. These investments have:

  • Improved federal service delivery for millions of citizens, from weather alerts to Social Security access.
  • Enhanced interagency collaboration and supported underserved communities.

3. Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI): The federal government is leading AI adoption responsibly through Executive Order 14110 and accompanying guidance (M-24-10). Highlights include:

  • Establishing a Chief AI Officer Council to oversee governance and innovation.
  • Expanding the AI Use Case Inventory to over 700 projects, from predicting weather hazards to improving healthcare and disaster response.

  • Agencies like the IRS and Social Security Administration implemented reforms to simplify online services for millions.

A Whole-of-Government Approach

The report also underscores the collaborative approach between the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the U.S. Digital Service (USDS), and the General Services Administration (GSA). Their combined efforts have accelerated IT modernization and strengthened partnerships across federal agencies.

Looking Ahead

The OFCIO emphasizes that continued progress will require sustained collaboration, investment, and innovation to meet emerging technological challenges. The 2024 Impact Report serves as a roadmap for ensuring the federal government remains secure, resilient, and responsive to the public’s needs.
