CBP ‘Trade Day’ Access Event Coming to Charleston Seaport

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations, the Maritime Association of South Carolina, and the Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association at Charleston seaport will be hosting a “trade day” on May 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The historic U.S. Custom House building at 200 East Bay Street, Charleston, will be accommodating this trade event.

This program will provide an opportunity for members of the trade community to meet CBP officers and Import, Entry, and Agriculture Specialists who enforce import and export regulations. In addition, representatives from the CBP Laboratories and Scientific Services Directorate in Savannah, Ga., will be available to discuss and demonstrate analysis capabilities and conduct tours of their mobile laboratory.

“Much has changed in the way international cargo information is shared between the trade community and CBP. Agency-wide, CBP has ramped up its enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights, consumer safety protections, accurate assessment of duties, and disruption of the ‘dumping’ of goods in the international marketplace,” said Charleston CBP Area Port Director Robert Fencel. “This event will provide one-on-one access to government officials who can explain how these issues, and many more, are impacting the trade community. All can benefit from the information we share, and we’ll benefit from enhanced understanding of the trade community’s most pressing concerns.”

Representatives from various federal agencies will include the U.S. Department of Commerce; Homeland Security Investigations; U.S. Coast Guard; Consumer Product Safety Commission; Food and Drug Administration; U.S. Department of Agriculture; Environmental Protection Agency; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; U.S. Fish and Wildlife; and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will also be on hand to answer questions and share information about their missions as they pertain to international trade.

There is no cost to attend Trade Day. Trade Day guests will be requested to register in the main lobby upon arrival.
