Dear Homeland Security Today readers,
Serving as the first Chief Information Security Officer of the United States government was one of my greatest honors. The role of the CISO has increased in value and attention as each public and private sector organization faces increased and devastating attacks on their digital infrastructure.
As we head into National Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October, I have the privilege of inviting you to join us here at Homeland Security Today to collaborate, share, and educate one another on the vulnerabilities, tactics, and solutions you have developed for your enterprise.
Many of you know that HSToday focuses on cybersecurity news, information, challenges, and solutions for the public sector. Throughout my professional career I recognized, as many of you have, that national security is a ‘team sport.’ The private sector is the home of the innovation that drives America’s economy. It is the home of nearly all our critical infrastructure. It is the heart of our homeland security. During the month of National Cybersecurity Awareness, I invite you to contribute to the national conversation and share your experiences.
We are looking for insightful pieces such as identifying emerging threats, raising awareness around solutions or practices, sharing trend analysis or insights based on your expertise. What are you seeing as the threat that’s getting the most attention? What do you see as the threat NOT getting enough attention? Where will attacks go from here? How are hackers, terrorists, nation-states using the web to infiltrate, exfiltrate, or complement their attacks over the internet?
The cyber threat landscape is constantly evolving. Information or narrative warfare is an emerging hot topic. How are our enemies using the internet to weave and amplify divisive and false narratives? What can we do to stop it? What ARE we doing to stop it?
I look forward to reading your submissions for NCSAM this year. Although HSToday focuses much of our editorial attention to cyber during October, I believe you all know that we do throughout the year and invite your continued contributions. At the end of the month we will send out a compilation of all of your contributions from 2019 AND 2018 so you have a comprehensive list on the latest thinking, and that of years past.
Thank you for reading and supporting Homeland Security Today. We look forward to a stronger, safer America with your contributions.
