Google Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist Vint Cerf will speak on a number of cybersecurity issues as a keynote speaker at the upcoming 2019 Department of Homeland Security Science & Technology Cybersecurity and Innovation Showcase at Washington Marriott Wardman Park on Jan. 10. Specifically, the man commonly referred to as the “father of the Internet” will discuss artificial intelligence, software assurance, the importance of building security at the beginning of technology development and the value of federally funded research and development.
“We are very excited Mr. Cerf has accepted our invitation to speak at the Showcase,” said Dr. Douglas Maughan, S&T’s director of industry partnerships. “As an industry leader, he will provide insights to guide government and industry to work together on securing our nation’s systems and networks from cyber adversaries.”
Cerf and his colleague Bob Kahn were presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1997 for founding and developing the Internet.
The Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Division is sponsoring the event, which will feature more than 130 presenters showcasing a combined $250 million in federally funded cybersecurity research and development. This year’s theme is “Solutions now, innovations for the future,” and the displays will include a focus on mobile security, cybersecurity research infrastructure, support for law enforcement and identity management.
Up to 1,000 cybersecurity and tech experts are expected to attend the showcase.
