TSA Terminates $578 Million Checkpoint Contract with Peraton

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has terminated its $578 million contract with Peraton that awarded the company logistics services to maintain security checkpoints at airports in the U.S., Washington Technology reported Thursday.

The agency had terminated its contract with Peraton on May 31, according to report, citing information from the Federal Procurement Data System, which monitors unclassified contracts.

The contract was instead extended to Leidos, a company that has performed work on security checkpoints in a contract with the TSA since 2013. TSA had previously sought to switch providers before terminating a newer contract with Peraton.

“TSA terminated the checkpoint equipment maintenance contract awarded to Peraton, which was to commence on June 1, 2018, in the best interest of the U.S. government,” TSA Assistant Press Secretary Michelle Negron told Washington Technology. “In the meantime, TSA has extended the incumbent vendor Leidos to ensure continued services and will issue a replacement contract as soon as practicable.”

Leidos’ contract has been extended to July 31 and could receive a further extension.

TSA did not elaborate on the motive behind the agency’s decision to terminate its contract with Peraton.

A representative from Peraton told Washington Technology that the company is having constructive dialogue about its terminated contract with TSA.

Washington Technology contacted Leidos for comment, but further details or a statement have not yet been released.

The systems for integrated logistics services provided by both companies are used at 448 airports in the U.S.
