USCIS: Billy Idol Becomes U.S. Citizen

Maybe not with a rebel yell, but with a raised right hand, rock star Billy Idol is now a U.S. citizen. On Nov. 14, the singer of such hits as “Dancin’ With Myself” and “White Wedding” held an American flag as he took the naturalization oath of allegiance in a small ceremony in Los Angeles.

“It’s a nice day for a naturalization ceremony. Congratulations Billy Idol on becoming a today in Los Angeles, CA,” announced U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in a tweet.

Idol, 63, was born William Michael Albert Broad in Middlesex, England. He moved to New York City in the 1980s to pursue his singing career. He moved to Los Angeles in 1987. He was nominated for three Grammy awards and is the winner of an MTV Video Music Award and a Brit Award.

Multimedia journalist James Cullum has reported for over a decade to newspapers, magazines and websites in the D.C. metro area. He excels at finding order in chaotic environments, from slave liberations in South Sudan to the halls of the power in Washington, D.C.
