GW Extremism Tracker: The Who, Why and What of ISIS in the U.S.

The George Washington University’s Program on Extremism has developed a “Terrorist Tracker” to track trends and activities of extremist individuals related to ISIS and the Islamic State operating in the United States. The program provides analysis on issues related to violent and nonviolent extremism to develop pragmatic policy solutions on terrorist activity in the United States. The GW team developed a tracker that provides the latest data and activities of terrorists, terrorist groups and other extremists. The monthly updates detail terrorism-related activities and court proceedings in the United States in a usable PDF file for anyone interested in understanding the trends and types of activities.

To date, the program has found that 157 individuals have been charged since March 2014 with activities related to the Islamic State, averaging 28 years old and 90 percent male. The terrorist activity has reached 28 states and the District of Columbia. Of the 157, 95 have pleaded or been found guilty with an average sentence of 13.6 years.
