National Institute of Justice Searches for AI Researchers

The National Institute of Justice has issued a solicitation for research to apply advances in artificial intelligence to law enforcement issues.

It is particularly interested in AI proposals aimed at combating street gang violence and victimization, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, opioid trafficking and child pornography.

The Artificial Intelligence Technology Applied Research and Development for Law Enforcement program is sponsored by DoJ, OJP and NIJ, and it is looking for objective, evidence-based knowledge and tools to meet the challenges faced by law enforcement, particularly at state and local levels.

The solicitation is open to states, units of local government, federally recognized Indian tribal governments that perform law enforcement functions, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, institutions of higher education, and certain qualified individuals. Foreign governments, foreign organizations, and foreign colleges and universities are not eligible to apply.

The deadline for applications is April 30, and all organizations must register with Grants.gov first.
