Jose Arrieta Taking Acquisition Skills from GSA to HHS

Jose Arrieta is leaving the General Services Administration to become the deputy assistant secretary for acquisition and senior procurement executive at the Department of Health and Human Services. He replaces Angela Billups, who joined the Education Department as its deputy chief acquisition officer and SPE in January 2017.

Arrieta has been on the cutting edge of bringing innovation, collaboration, and communication to the acquisition and procurement process at GSA, Treasury, and the Department of Homeland Security.

He pioneered GSA’s efforts to revolutionize procurement with “blockchain” – a digitized, decentralized, public ledger that could add tremendous efficiency to the procurement process.

Prior to GSA, Arrieta worked at the Treasury Department as its director of the Office of Small Disadvantage Business Utilization (OSDBU) where he initiated the first Small Business Days and worked with numerous stakeholders to improve communications and collaboration with small businesses and industry generally. Prior to Treasury, he worked as DHS industry liaison and ombudsman to improve communication with industry and training for the DHS acquisition and procurement staff.
