The cybersecurity community is grieving the unexpected passing of Amit Yoran, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tenable Holdings, Inc. Yoran, a trailblazer in the field, passed away on December 20, 2024, following a battle with cancer. His profound impact on the industry and his dedication to making the digital world safer leave an enduring legacy.
Yoran’s leadership transformed Tenable into a global leader in exposure management. Joining the company as CEO in 2016, he spearheaded its growth, including a successful initial public offering in 2018. His strategic vision and passion for cybersecurity reshaped not only Tenable but also the broader cybersecurity landscape.
“Amit was an extraordinary leader, colleague, and friend,” said Art Coviello, Tenable’s lead independent director. “His passion for cybersecurity, his strategic vision, and his ability to inspire those around him have shaped Tenable’s culture and mission. His legacy will continue to guide us as we move forward.”
Yoran’s career was defined by innovation and leadership. Before joining Tenable, he held prominent positions, including President of RSA and founding CEO of NetWitness. His work across these roles helped set new standards for cybersecurity practices and technologies, cementing his reputation as a forward-thinking leader in a rapidly evolving field.
Tenable had been preparing for continuity following Yoran’s decision to take a medical leave of absence earlier this month. The Board appointed Steve Vintz, Chief Financial Officer, and Mark Thurmond, Chief Operating Officer, as Co-CEOs to ensure operational stability and strategic execution. Coviello will serve as Chairman of the Board while the company conducts a search for a new CEO, considering both internal and external candidates.
Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced. His enduring contributions to cybersecurity will continue to inspire the industry for years to come.
