New Terminal One at JFK Airport Partners with K2 Security to Create Advanced Passenger Screening Checkpoint

The New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport and GTSC members, K2 Security Screening Group, have announced a partnership to construct a cutting-edge passenger screening checkpoint at JFK’s new global terminal. The New Terminal One is a key component of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of JFK Airport, aimed at making JFK a world-class entry point to New York City and the U.S.

Scheduled for initial opening in 2026, New Terminal One is designed to offer an enhanced passenger experience through advanced technologies. The partnership between K2 and New Terminal One will focus on a seamless and secure travel experience, with technology-driven security solutions, efficient passenger flow, and collaborative efforts with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and prominent screening technology providers, including Analogic, Rohde & Schwarz, CEIA, and Leidos.

The planned screening checkpoint will include Computed Tomography (CT) X-ray scanners, capable of generating high-resolution 3-D images. These CT scanners reduce the need for manual bag checks, allowing travelers to move more swiftly through security while maintaining high security standards. Additionally, the enhanced Advanced Imaging Technology (eAIT) system uses millimeter wave technology to detect concealed metallic and non-metallic items without the need for invasive searches, improving both efficiency and privacy. This eAIT system allows for the simultaneous scanning of multiple travelers, reducing wait times.

Further enhancing security, the checkpoint will feature Credential Authentication Technology (CAT-2), which validates the authenticity of passenger identification. CAT-2 is equipped with a camera for automated identity verification, incorporating biometric and self-service capabilities that streamline the check-in and screening process while maintaining stringent security standards.

New Terminal One’s Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Aument emphasized the terminal’s commitment to blending security with convenience for travelers. “At The New Terminal One, we are committed to delivering the highest standards of safety and unmatched convenience for passengers. Developing our new state-of-the-art security checkpoint with industry experts K2 will allow us to provide travelers with the safest, most efficient experience when they fly out of our terminal.” Aument stated.

Kathy Yurkunas, President of K2 Security Screening Group, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “K2 is eager to collaborate with the JFK New Terminal One team on this pivotal project, which will significantly enhance the passenger experience by streamlining the screening process. We are excited to contribute to New Terminal One’s vision by developing a world-class security checkpoint and helping deliver exceptional services for all passengers,”

Phase A of New Terminal One, set to open in 2026, will include expansive departure and arrival halls and 14 widebody aircraft gates. Expected to be fully completed by 2030, the 2.6 million-square-foot terminal will ultimately house 23 gates, 22 of which will accommodate widebody aircraft to meet the projected traffic of over 16 million annual passengers by 2030. New Terminal One will replace the current Terminal 1, as well as the former Terminals 2 and 3, and provide travelers with a modern, efficient travel hub designed for comfort and convenience.
