After 30+ years of devoted government service, both in and out of military uniform, Guy Torres, Acting Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) at the IRS has announced his retirement from federal service, effective March 11th.
Prior to assuming the Acting CPO role, Guy was the Deputy CPO at the IRS for approximately three years. He led the day-to-day procurement operations of a 580+ workforce supporting a number of IRS contracting commands across the country while managing an average annual contract obligation rate of over $4.6B. Additionally, he was the senior procurement authority for ongoing IRS contracting priorities supporting the Agency’s digitization and IT modernization efforts.
Guy’s high profile public service has also been highlighted in his previous leadership positions in the U.S. Marine Corps, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Homeland Security/U. S . Customs & Border Protection. Additionally, he spent more than five years in the private sector leading business development efforts for mid-tier and Fortune 100 companies.
Torres successfully completed the Senior Executive Fellows and Executive Leaders in Government programs at Harvard Kennedy School of Government along with the Leadership for Senior Executives program at Harvard Business School. He is a 1991 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and served as a U. S. Marine Corps Officer.
Torres thanked his workforce and the IRS team for their unwavering dedication, unified, one team approach and for making his final role in the Federal government the most rewarding chapter in his career.
