Amanda Day Becomes New Deputy CISO at DHS

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has appointed Amanda Day as Deputy Chief Information Security Officer, Deputy Executive Director. With over 16 years of experience in IT and Information Security roles across DHS, Amanda brings a wealth of expertise in managing and enhancing cybersecurity operations within the federal government.

As a senior executive, Day will play a role in fortifying the Department’s cybersecurity posture. Her responsibilities include leading critical information security programs that support national security systems, overseeing and implementing robust information security policies, managing cybersecurity risk, and conducting comprehensive security assessments. She will ensure DHS remains compliant with federal laws, executive orders, directives, and policies, safeguarding the integrity of the Department’s systems in an evolving threat landscape.

Day’s extensive experience includes serving as Branch Manager of the DHS Cyber Security Operations Center (SOC) and as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the Science & Technology Directorate, where she managed complex cybersecurity initiatives across DHS’s research and development arm. She also held several key positions at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), where her focus areas included governance and policy, cybersecurity architecture, awareness and training, FISMA compliance, and IT security risk assessments.

A graduate of Strayer University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Information Systems Security/Information Assurance, Day is recognized for her dedication to advancing cybersecurity strategies within DHS.
