Ann Dunkin Joins Mission Critical as Fellow and Advisory Board Member

Ann Dunkin, a seasoned technology leader with decades of experience in government, academia, and industry, has joined Mission Critical as a Fellow and Advisory Board Member. She announced the move while continuing her roles as an External Fellow and Distinguished Professor of the Practice at the Georgia Institute of Technology, CEO of Dunkin Global Advisors, and on the advisory boards for several other organizations.

Dunkin is well known for her leadership in federal technology. Recently, she served as Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) under the Biden-Harris administration, where she managed a $5 billion IT portfolio and oversaw a $1 billion high-performance computing budget. At DOE, she advanced efforts in cybersecurity, cloud migration, and digital transformation, aligning new technology with the department’s mission to enhance energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.

Her prior federal service includes being CIO of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency during the Obama administration, where she focused on modernizing government IT systems and expanding digital services. Beyond government, she has held leadership roles such as Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer at Dell Technologies, CIO for Santa Clara County in California, and Chief Technology Officer for the Palo Alto Unified School District. She also spent part of her early career at Hewlett Packard Enterprise in engineering, R&D, IT, software quality, and operations.

Dunkin is also a published author, most recently of Industrial Digital Transformation, and a sought-after speaker on emerging technology, particularly the intersection of energy, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and modernization in government.

Her contributions have been recognized with a long list of honors, including the 2024 Forbes CIO Next List, the Georgia Tech Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers Captains of Industry Award, and the Institute for Critical Infrastructure Technology Pinnacle Award. She is also a multi-year recipient of FedScoop’s Golden Gov Executive of the Year and has been named to FedScoop’s Best Bosses in Federal IT list, among many other industry awards.
