BGR Group Welcomes Former CIA Station Chief On Advisory Board

BGR has expanded its Advisory Board to better serve its clients across a broad range of issues.

The newest members of the advisory board are Ed Mathias, managing director of The Carlyle Group, and Daniel Hoffman, a former station chief with the Central Intelligence Agency. They join advisory board co-chair John McIntyre, who is co-founder and president of RealClearPolitics.

The advisory board along with BGR professionals provides strategic advice and counsel to BGR clients across business, policy and geo-politics. BGR Group is a global government affairs and communications firm that works at the intersection of government and business.

“Ed Mathias’ decades of experience in investing around the world and his deep understanding of business and geopolitical influences will serve BGR and its clients well as they seek to deal with the evolving relationships between the U.S. government, U.S. businesses and the worldwide marketplace,” Wood said. Mathias was instrumental in the founding of The Carlyle Group where he sits on several of the firm’s Investment Committees and advises Carlyle’s senior management.  He has extensive global relationships in the financial community.

“In a dangerous and complicated world, Daniel Hoffman’s decades of experience and understanding of the nuances of far flung capitals will better inform BGR clients as they make important business decisions,” Wood said. Hoffman has had a highly distinguished thirty-year career in government service including with the Central Intelligence Agency, the U.S. military, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Commerce. He developed substantive expertise on geopolitical and transnational issues related to the Middle East, South Asia, Russia, counterterrorism and cyber- and counter-intelligence.

“The combination of McIntyre, Mathias, Hoffman and the entire BGR team represents the most seasoned group of issue-based leaders at any firm in Washington,” said BGR Group Founding Partner Haley Barbour. “Our clients have come to rely on the deep expertise of our professionals. With the addition of this outstanding Advisory Board, we will continue to serve our clients at the highest level. BGR is proud of its twenty-seven-year history and we look forward to providing the best advice to our clients as they make complicated decisions for their businesses and institutions.”

McIntyre’s appointment was previously announced. RealClearPolitics delivers insightful and impartial news and analysis across many topics – from world affairs to domestic policy and politics.
