Eric Welling has joined Ernst & Young (EY) as an Executive Managing Director, a role he announced on LinkedIn. Based in Tysons Corner, Virginia, Welling is focused on helping clients strengthen insider risk programs and prepare for resilience and recovery.
Welling brings more than three decades of national security and private sector leadership to the role. Before EY, he spent nearly six years at Accenture as a senior security executive leading crisis management, incident response, and intelligence operations across North America.
He previously served nearly 24 years at the FBI, rising to the position of Deputy Assistant Director. Over the course of his FBI career, Welling held leadership roles in investigations, training, and inspections, giving him broad experience in counterintelligence and security. Prior to the FBI, he spent almost four years as a special agent with the U.S. Secret Service, where he worked on cybercrime, fraud, computer forensics, and protection operations. He began his career in law enforcement as a police officer in Bath Township, Ohio.
In addition to his extensive field and leadership experience, Welling has pursued executive education at Northeastern University, Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and the University of Virginia, where he earned a master’s in education with a focus on leadership and adult learning. He also holds bachelor’s and associate degrees in criminal justice and law enforcement from the University of Akron.
