Artie McConnell, a former federal prosecutor with a decade of experience at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, has joined BakerHostetler as a partner in its New York office according to a press release yesterday. McConnell will co-lead the firm’s newly established National Security Investigations and Litigation Task Force alongside Atlanta partner Jenna Solari and Washington partner Melissa Mannino. He will also serve as part of the nationwide Litigation Practice Group and the White Collar, Investigations, and Securities Enforcement and Litigation team. McConnell brings experience handling complex cases involving national security, cybercrime, and global sanctions enforcement, making him a key addition to BakerHostetler’s growing capabilities in these areas.
As a federal prosecutor, McConnell served as deputy chief of the National Security and Cybercrime section, where he supervised high-profile terrorism, espionage, and cybersecurity cases. He also led the office’s global sanctions and export control enforcement program, focusing on dual-use technologies and the energy sector. His work in these areas earned him multiple awards from the Department of Justice, including the John Marshall Award for trial advocacy and the Distinguished Service Award for his contributions to sanctions and export control enforcement. McConnell’s cases have been cited in compliance guidance issued by federal agencies, reflecting their impact on national security and regulatory practices.
McConnell’s new role at BakerHostetler will include counseling and representing clients in high-stakes criminal and civil enforcement actions, cross-border regulatory proceedings, internal investigations, and compliance matters. The National Security Investigations and Litigation Task Force he co-leads will focus on critical issues such as economic espionage, trade secret theft, cybersecurity incidents, corporate compliance, and government investigations. The task force will provide strategic counsel on matters intersecting business and national security, helping clients navigate increasingly complex regulatory and enforcement challenges. McConnell’s educational background includes a Master of Arts and a Juris Doctor from The George Washington University.
