Former TSA Administrator John Pistole Appointed to Smiths Detection Board of Directors

Smiths Detection Inc. has announced the appointment of John S. Pistole to the Board of Directors for Smiths Detection US, LLC.

Mr. Pistole brings more than three decades of public service and national security leadership to the company. He previously served as Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and as Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

In his role as an Outside Director on the Board, Mr. Pistole will provide strategic guidance in areas such as global security risk, screening innovation, regulatory engagement, and transportation infrastructure protection. His extensive experience overseeing large-scale security operations and implementing intelligence-driven risk management programs aligns closely with Smiths Detection’s mission to deliver next-generation detection solutions that help make the world a safer place.

“John’s distinguished career in public service and his deep understanding of security policy and technology make him an invaluable addition to our board,” said Duane Andrews, Chair of the Board. “His perspective will strengthen our ability to support customers worldwide as they address evolving security challenges.”

Mr. Pistole holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Anderson University and a Juris Doctor degree from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He joined the FBI in 1983, where he held several leadership roles including Executive Assistant Director for National Security before being appointed Deputy Director in 2004. In 2010, he was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as TSA Administrator, leading approximately 60,000 employees and overseeing security operations at more than 450 U.S. airports.  In 2015, Mr. Pistole became President of Anderson University, a position he held for over 10 years.
