The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has appointed Melvin Brown II as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO) according to a post by Brown on LinkedIn. Brown, a seasoned IT and cybersecurity leader with over three decades of experience across military, public, and private sectors, will lead OPM’s digital transformation efforts, driving enterprise technology modernization and enhancing the agency’s cybersecurity posture. Brown’s appointment follows his tenure as OPM’s Deputy CIO.
Throughout his career, Brown has embraced continuous learning and growth. His academic achievements include a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity Policy from the University of Maryland Global Campus, a Master of Science in Social and Organizational Learning from George Mason University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Strayer University.
In addition to his leadership roles at OPM, Brown previously served as Director at the U.S. Small Business Administration and Senior Advisor for the Presidential Transition Office at the Department of Homeland Security. He has also been an adjunct professor at the University of Phoenix for over 14 years, further underscoring his dedication to education and mentorship.
Beyond his professional achievements, Brown is deeply committed to community service. He collaborates with his fraternity and church on initiatives such as food drives and clothing distribution for underserved populations. His involvement as a high school baseball umpire and volleyball official reflects his passion for mentoring and supporting youth development.
