Mitchell Winans has officially joined the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as the Head of Industry Partnerships.
Winans announced his new role on LinkedIn, expressing his enthusiasm: “Look forward to supporting FDIC’s important mission of protecting consumers and maintaining stability and confidence in the nation’s financial system!”
Before joining the FDIC, Winans served as the Senior Advisor in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to the CEO as well as the Enterprise Digitalization and Case Management Office before that.
Prior to his role in digitalization, Winans was the Head of Customer Experience and Strategic Planning in the IRS Office of the Chief Procurement Officer. There, he was responsible for improving the procurement experience for both internal and external stakeholders, managing strategic planning for an organization with over 350 employees and a $2.6 billion annual procurement portfolio. He advised leadership on various aspects, including organizational development, technology and process improvements, and customer and employee engagement.
Winans’ career also includes significant roles at the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) under the Department of Commerce, where he helped establish the agency’s procurement organization and small business program. At the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), he served as the Strategic Communications Liaison in the Office of the Chief Procurement Officer, where he provided counsel on effective communication strategies and managed the dissemination of procurement information to various stakeholders, including industry, Congress, the media, and DHS components.
As a Contract Specialist at DHS, Winans supported a wide range of programs for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Customs and Border Protection, and the DHS Science and Technology Directorate. He also has experience working with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Office of Congressional and Public Affairs.
Mitchell Winans holds an MBA from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and a BA from the University of California, Irvine.
