Sylvia Mishra Joins Truman Center as Janne E. Nolan Nuclear Security Fellow

Truman Center for National Policy has welcomed Sylvia Mishra as its newest Janne E. Nolan Nuclear Security Fellow. The fellowship, a three-year programming initiative, is supported by the MacArthur Foundation.

Mishra, a doctoral researcher at King’s College London, will work closely with the Truman Center to focus on nuclear policy through a lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. She will publish a white paper, conduct a series of expert roundtable discussions, and offer Nuclear 101 training to members of the Truman National Security Project.

“Sylvia will greatly add to Truman’s efforts to diversify the field of nuclear security,” said Truman’s President & CEO, Jenna Ben-Yehuda. “Sylvia’s energy and expertise in this area make her an exciting fit for Truman’s efforts. We are thrilled to have her on board.”

Mishra is affiliated with the European Leadership Network as a New Tech Nuclear Officer. Her research focuses on nuclear strategy and nonproliferation, south Asian security, and emerging and disruptive technologies. Mishra is a strong advocate for social justice, co-chairing the CBRN Working Group for Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security (WCAPS), and the Indian Women in International Relations (IWIR) at Global Policy Insights.

“I am delighted to be awarded this prestigious fellowship honoring the legacy of Janne E. Nolan, a giant in the field of nuclear strategy,” said Mishra. “Bringing my experiences and expertise in nuclear policy and nonproliferation issues, I look forward to augmenting the Truman Center’s work. This opportunity will also help me build towards a diverse, intersectional, and inclusive global nuclear policy community.”

A published author, Mishra’s writing and research has been included in books, journals, and expert commentaries for opinion pieces. Mishra holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Hindu College, University of Delhi, an MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics, and an MA in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies.
