U.S. Army Cyber Warfare Officer Dave Schroeder Takes on New Role at University of Wisconsin-Madison

Dave Schroeder, a U.S. Army Cyber Warfare Officer and longtime strategist on national security and cyber issues, has taken on a new role at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as Director of National Security Initiatives. He announced the move on LinkedIn.

In his new position, Schroeder will identify national security research opportunities and build partnerships that strengthen Wisconsin’s role in advancing security-focused projects. He will work with both the Vice Chancellor for Research and the Vice Chancellor for University Relations.

Schroeder brings decades of military and academic experience to the role. In addition to his current service in the Wisconsin Army National Guard as a Cyber Warfare Officer, he previously served as a Navy Cryptologic Warfare Officer and has extensive expertise in cyber operations, intelligence, signals intelligence, and information warfare.

At UW-Madison, Schroeder has already played a key role in building connections between academia and the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community. He has served as Associate Director for Intelligence and Security Initiatives in the College of Letters & Science, as Program Manager for cyber programs in the School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences, and as Research Director for the Wisconsin Security Research Consortium.

His background also includes leadership with the Wisconsin Federated Cyber Program, where he oversaw cybersecurity research supporting the U.S. Intelligence Community and Department of Defense, as well as assignments with U.S. Cyber Command.

Schroeder is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Cyber Defense from Dakota State University and holds master’s degrees in intelligence studies and cybersecurity policy.
