TMR, Inc. seeks an experienced Network Specialist- Journeyman who can support our client located in the Fort Hood TX. This candidate will also serve as a telecommunications specialist concerning installation, maintenance, testing, evaluation and repair of Layer 1 transport and network equipment. Assist in performing site surveys, planning, providing cost estimates, of work pertaining to telecommunications systems which consists of inside cable plant systems, outside cable plant systems (i.e., fiber optics, copper and coaxial, manholes, wireless, and duct systems) associated with new construction, upgrades, and renovations.
Performs cable splicing and termination of fiber optic and twisted pair outside/inside plant telecommunications cables. Installs, tests, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs telecommunications equipment and wiring for installs, moves and changes.
Assist with performing cable locates and approvals for excavation permits including: scheduling demo support and range control support.
Assist in overseeing one or more contractors in support of infrastructure missions.
Assist in determining and analyzing network requirements. Reviews, analyzes, implements and recommends all Layer 1 transport circuits, inside /outside cable plant facilities.
Assist senior network specialist with cost comparisons to ensure the most cost effective plans are implemented and balanced against changing and new technology.
Assist in developing and recommending implementation of policies and procedures covering telecommunications requirements and specifications.
Assist with conducting site surveys and developing plans for projected construction, change in equipment, routing of cable and materials required to satisfy end user requests
Investigate, analyze and perform corrective actions affecting network interruptions, equipment failures and interface problems.
Observes problems and facilitates initiation of immediate action to alleviate difficulties ensuring that delay or interruptions/outages are kept to an absolute minimum.
Suggests technically feasible approaches and makes recommendations regarding the most effective and efficient approaches to improve user Layer 1 inside /outside cable plant facilities to also include wireless devices.
Knowledge of a wide range of communications standards, policies, procedures, and authorized telecommunication system approaches; knowledge of the subject matter work processes, communications networks, and precedents and alternative communications approaches in order to advise on proposed equipment, and to commit resources needed for installation and maintaining of communications systems.
Knowledge of Inside and Outside Plant telecommunications, for problem solving, designing, reviewing and analyzing communications systems for the ATC Network.
Coordinates, plans, and performs site surveys to satisfy user requirements for equipment such as wireless, voice, data, and video communications.
Knowledge to have the wireless network services meet established service levels for coverage, reliability and speed.
Must support the wireless infrastructure by creating drawings, performing installations and ongoing maintenance supporting customers.
Associate’s Degree and 5 years experience; or Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years experience; or Master’s Degree and 1 year experience; or combination of 7 years which may include education/specialized training/certifications and/or experience.
Relevant education/experience must be in an IT discipline related to the assigned program area (e.g., Network Engineering, Network Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer or Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, Computer Forensics/Security, etc.), DOD Computing Environment, Security+ (or equivalent DOD Directive 8570.1 IAT II).
