Homeland Security Today Welcomes Elaine Duke, Francis X. Taylor to Editorial Board

Homeland Security Today, the nation’s leading news and analysis site for homeland security, today announced the addition of three exceptional leaders to the prestigious members of the Editorial Board. Elaine Duke, most recently Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and Francis X. Taylor, former Under Secretary for Intelligence & Analysis at DHS, join us to lead the editorial direction of the media platform.

“We are so honored to welcome such devoted and accomplished leaders to our Editorial Board,” said Kristina Tanasichuk, Executive Editor and CEO of Homeland Security Today. “We are committed to educating and enlightening the homeland security community and the public about the toughest issues facing America with wisdom, thoughtfulness, and most importantly, true expertise.”

The Government Technology & Services Coalition purchased Homeland Security Today and relaunched the site in January 2018. Since then, the online media outlet has attracted the biggest names in homeland security to write, collaborate, and lead challenging conversations around how to protect America. Over 100,000 people per month have visited the site to follow news on the government shutdown and understand its impact on the nation’s security.

“What is sorely needed in our current political environment is a place for real experts to discuss and explain the complexities and nuances of what it takes to balance a free society with the need for common-sense protections. The challenges in both the physical and cyber realm continue to expand and we must devote time and energy to encouraging a healthy, educated debate around what is best for America,” said former Deputy Secretary Duke at the announcement.

The Editorial Board of Homeland Security Today has grown to include leaders from across the Department of Homeland Security who have led the enterprise, like former Secretary Michael Chertoff, and individual component leaders like Tom Homan, former Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Mark Sullivan, former Director of the U.S. Secret Service, former Acting CBP Commissioner David Aguilar and many other proven leaders from the senior leadership of the nation.

“HSToday provides a unique opportunity for a constructive exchange of ideas and challenges from many of us who have experienced them firsthand, and provide a voice for realistic explanations of policy and practice,” said former Undersecretary Taylor at the announcement. “We need to bring some rational discussion to urgent homeland issues facing the country and I look forward to contributing to that.”

Duke and Taylor join members of the HSToday Board who provide the media platform with editorial direction and understanding of ‘hot topics’ in the community, and lead collaborations on homeland and national security issues. A full list of the Editorial Board members can be found here.
