WASHINGTON, DC, August 8, 2012—Homeland Security Today is proud to announce it has won three Azbee Awards for Excellence from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE).
ASBPE’s competition recognizes the hard work and commitment of business and professional magazine, newsletter and Web editors and designers. The awards competition is a prestigious acknowledgement that a publication’s work has met high standards of excellence and is at the top of its profession.
Homeland Security Today received a national silver award for its news analysis/investigative coverage for the May 2011 article “Fighting Ghadafi—and the Specter of Al Qaeda” by contributing writer Mike Elkin.
In addition, Homeland Security Today’s editor David Silverberg received a Central-Southeast region silver award for his Editorial/Editor’s Letters published in the September and October 2011 issues about the 10-year anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001.
Homeland Security Today’s March 2011 issue, which served as the unveiling of its new design, won a Central-Southeast region silver award for its cover photo, “Mexico’s Youngest Assassins.” Recipient of the award is Karen Pollard, Homeland Security Today’s Art Director.
“This year’s awards bring Homeland Security Today’s total to 18 awards for editorial excellence won since 2004,” said Editor David Silverberg. “I’m particularly pleased by Karen Pollard’s graphic award and by the recognition given Mike Elkin’s reporting from the battlefield in Libya. It’s a validation of our commitment to boots-on-the-ground reporting and the kind of broad sweep that has always guided our coverage of homeland security topics.”
According to Kimberley Hanson-Brown, Homeland Security Today Publisher, “All of us at Homeland Security Today are deeply honored by these awards, which are a great recognition of the hard work and effort we have all put into this enterprise since its founding.”
