The International Civil Aviation Organization Council has updated its International Standards and Recommended Practices for Aviation Security to ensure that the measures are commensurate with the level of threat to civil aviation.
A new provision dedicated to security culture will be introduced as part of the update. In addition, a new standard will clarify the policy intent and will ensure consistent application by countries and aircraft operators of requirements for Aircraft Operator Security Programs (AOSP).
Another new standard in this amendment aims to enhance aviation security by ensuring that countries apply appropriate hold baggage screening methods capable of detecting explosives and explosive devices.
A further new standard outlines essential elements of a national civil aviation security quality control program to be developed, implemented, and maintained.
The updated standards and practices are expected to become applicable on November 18, 2022.
