Customs and Border Protection said June 4 that authorities seized about 87 pounds of marijuana June 1 after an agent assigned to the Brownsville Border Patrol Station was assaulted with rocks during an attempted smuggling event.
The agent had responded to a report of four men scaling the border fence carrying what appeared to be bundles of narcotics, CBP said. As the agent approached the men, they abandoned four bundles, threw rocks at the agent and fled across the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the statement.
The seized narcotics valuing about $70,000 were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
The June 1 incident remains under investigation.
