British Port Becomes No Drone Zone

Britain’s Port of Dover has become the first port in the country to be a granted its own legislation for the restriction of flying drones in or over the port.

Port of Dover made the application, which has now been granted by the U.K. government, because it is a site of critical national infrastructure. It was therefore decided that it was in the interest of public security to make the order.

The order means that there is a flight restriction of 1000ft above sea level and a 2.25 mile radius covering the port’s estate for unmanned aircraft. Drones operating with the permission of Port of Dover Police are exempt from the order, and permission is to be granted on a case by case basis.
