U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has released new travel guidance ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026™, which kicks off in the U.S. in Los Angeles on 12 June, as millions of visitors are expected to cross U.S. borders for matches and related events.
CBP said it is coordinating with DHS and other partners to support secure and efficient travel for athletes, officials, fans, and international visitors, while maintaining public safety through planning, resource deployment, and threat monitoring across land, air, and sea ports of entry.
In its “Know Before You Go” fact sheet, CBP encouraged eligible travelers to use expedited processing options such as Global Entry and the Mobile Passport Control (MPC) app, along with trusted traveler programs like NEXUS and SENTRI.
CBP also reminded travelers to ensure they have the proper documentation before arrival. Passports should generally be valid for six months beyond the intended stay, unless covered by an agreement with the U.S. Travelers using the Visa Waiver Program must have ESTA approval prior to travel, including for children.
The guidance includes reminders on items and activities that can cause delays or enforcement actions, including requirements to declare all food, restrictions on medications, and reporting rules for travelers carrying more than $10,000. CBP also noted that foreign visitors cannot bring firearms into the U.S. without authorization, and weapons are prohibited at stadiums.
CBP additionally warned that using drones at sporting events or mass gatherings is illegal, and violations may result in enforcement action or criminal prosecution.
