DHS, DOJ Release Latest Data on Incarcerated Aliens

There are more than 42,000aliens in federal prisons—about 22 percent of the federal prison population—according to the latest data on incarcerated aliens released by the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security.

The data indicates that out of the 187,855 inmates in US federal prisons, 42,034 are foreign-born. Of the foreign-born inmates, nearly 47 percent have received final deportation orders and over half are under investigation for possible removal.

The data was requested by President Donald Trump through an executive order requiring DOJ and DHS to provide all relevant data and quarterly reports on the immigration status of all aliens incarcerated under the supervision of the Bureau of Prisons. The first report was released in May.
