‘Milestone’ Reached in Number of Trusted Traveler Program Cards Produced for CBP

Five million Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) cards for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have been produced by the Government Publishing Office (GPO). The achievement is considered by both agencies to be “a milestone in the production of secure border credentials."

“During this process, GPO and CBP have successfully manufactured these secure credentials for members of the various TTP programs without a single compromise in security nor a fruitful counterfeit attempt,” the agencies said in a statement.

“With a higher and more consistent read rate than any other Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) enabled travel document, GPO and CBP have not only created a more secure form of identification, but a more efficient product generating benefits for both the traveler and officer alike,” the announcement stated.

GPO has been producing the cards since 2008 at the agency’s ISO 9001 certified secure production facilities in Washington, DC and Mississippi. GPO also is responsible for designing, printing, personalizing and mailing the cards.

CBP’s Trusted Traveler Program is designed to provide expedited entry process for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Trusted Traveler Programs cards, including NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST and Global Entry, are also approved travel documents under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.

“CBP-TTP chose the GPO to manufacture their TTP program cards due to the GPO’s experience and secure supply chain,” stated John P. Wagner, CBP Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Office of Field Operations. “The GPO is an in-house government cataloging, producing and publishing agency, which means that their manufacturing processes are more secure and less susceptible to counterfeiting since no sensitive information is ever exchanged with a third party vendor, as previous official identification documents have been.”

GPO Director Davita Vance-Cooks added that, "This is a proud achievement and a testament for the ongoing teamwork between GPO and CBP in producing these cards that contribute to the security of our country’s borders. GPO’s unique government-to-government expertise in design, printing, production and personalization of secure credentials has made GPO a trusted source.”

GPO is the federal government’s official, digital, secure resource for producing, procuring, cataloging, indexing, authenticating, disseminating and preserving the official information products of the US government.

GPO also is responsible for the production and distribution of information products and services for all three branches of the government, including US passports for the Department of State and the official publications of Congress, White House and other federal agencies in digital and print formats.
