British Men Charged with Terrorism Offenses Following Counterterrorism Investigation

Three men have been charged with terrorism offenses following an investigation by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command with support from Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) North West unit and the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit CTP colleagues.

Mohammed Saeed, 21, of Manchester, was charged with five offenses contrary to section 57(1) of the Terrorism Act (TACT) 2000: possessing an article in circumstances which give rise to a reasonable suspicion that the possession is for a purpose connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.

Mohamed Ismail, 23, of north London, was charged with two offenses contrary to section 2 of TACT 2006: on suspicion of disseminating a terrorist publication.

Muhammed Tahir, 19, of Peterborough, was charged with one offense contrary to section 2 of TACT 2006: on suspicion of disseminating a terrorist publication.

On 30 December 2019, the three men were arrested as part of a planned operation. They were subsequently charged with the above offences and remanded in custody. They will appear at the Old Bailey Court on February 7.

A 22-year-old man arrested in north London as part of the same operation on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism was released with no further action.
