National Security Advisor John Bolton said in a statement released by the White House tonight that “in response to a number of troubling and escalatory indications and warnings,” the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force were being deployed
Bolton said the action is “to send a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime that any attack on United States interests or on those of our allies will be met with unrelenting force.”
“The United States is not seeking war with the Iranian regime, but we are fully prepared to respond to any attack, whether by proxy, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or regular Iranian forces,” he added.
Last Wednesday, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei tweeted that the “enemy is attacking us on all areas: they devise plans to strike Iran on economy, intelligence infiltration & cyberspace.”
“U.S.’s enmity toward Iran doesn’t exclusively come from the current govt. What the current U.S. president helped us with was that he exposed the U.S., unlike former U.S. governments who wore velvet gloves over their iron hands,” the Iranian leader added. “Today the enemy’s combative, political, economic and cyberspace arrangement is an arrangement for war and apparently it’s only military arrangement they haven’t made yet. Of course our armed forces are vigilant. The nation should make a proper arrangement in this confrontation.”
“One of the most essential tasks is to safeguard unity and everyone has a duty to protect and safeguard this unity which is a [key] factor in the nation’s sovereignty,” Khamenei’s English-language tweets continued. “By God’s grace, enemy’s plots, conspiracies & massive propaganda to engage the minds will end in their detriment & you the dear youth will witness, by the grace of God, the U.S.’s defeat and the Zionists’ downfall as well as the ultimate victory and glory of the Iranian nation.”
