FBI Recognizes the 10th Anniversary of the Kidnapping of Austin Tice

Anyone with information concerning the kidnapping of Austin Bennett Tice is urged to contact the FBI or nearest American Embassy.

This week we recognize the 10th anniversary of the kidnapping of Austin Tice from Damascus, Syria. Austin was kidnapped on or about August 13, 2012, near Darraya, a suburb of Damascus, Syria. He was working as a freelance journalist and photographer for a variety of news organizations.

The United States Government is still offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading directly to the safe location, recovery, and return of Austin. The reward remains unclaimed. The FBI is dedicated to locating American citizens overseas and returning them home to their families.

“This year we recognize the 10-year anniversary of the disappearance of Austin Tice and it is time to renew our public call for information that could lead to his whereabouts,” said FBI Director, Christopher Wray. “Additionally, this week marks Austin’s 41st birthday. For 10 years, dedicated FBI personnel have been working tirelessly to return him to his family. The FBI will continue to work with our government partners to bring Austin home and seek answers for his family.”

We encourage anyone with information concerning the kidnapping of Austin Bennett Tice to contact the FBI, nearest American Embassy or Consulate, or submit a tip at [email protected] or tips.fbi.gov. Tips can be kept strictly confidential.
