The Nigeria-based jihadist group Boko Haram has unusually released a flurry of propaganda over the past week using a new Telegram channel called Attibyan.
The output included a video featuring the group’s leader Abu Bakr Shekau who used the address to prove that he was alive and well, contrary to rumours about his possible ill health or even death.
But the most striking aspect of the new batch of Boko Haram material was how the media branding and templates closely resembled those used by Islamic State group (IS), from which Shekau’s faction parted ways in 2016.
Meanwhile, Attibyan, the Boko Haram media outlet on the messaging app Telegram, has persistently resurfaced over the past days despite being repeatedly suspended.
