In his first interview since resigning as the Trump administration special envoy to the global coalition fighting ISIS, Brett McGurk told CBS’ Face the Nation that ISIS is not defeated. “American leadership really counts. Leadership built this collision. It lead to these gains against ISIS. And leadership requires some presence on the ground and also consistency,” he said. “And it was the total reversal of our policy that made it — I just — I concluded I could not be effective in carrying out those new instructions.”
