Pence Picks Kellogg as VP’s National Security Advisor

Vice President Mike Pence today announced the appointment of Lt. Gen. (Ret) Joseph Keith Kellogg, Jr. as his national security advisor. Kellogg will remain an assistant to President Trump.

“General Kellogg has served his country and President Trump with distinction and I am honored that he will add his trusted voice to our team in this expanded role. General Kellogg brings a wealth of experience in national security and foreign policy matters to this role and has already been an integral part of the president’s national security team,” said Pence. “We are thankful for his willingness to serve and look forward to leaning on his counsel as we work to advance and protect the interests of the American people.”

Kellogg is a decorated Army veteran, having served from 1967 to 2003, including two tours during the Vietnam War, where he earned the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with “V” device, and the Air Medal with “V” device. He served as the Commander of the 82nd Airborne Division from 1997 to 1998. Prior to his retirement, Kellogg was director of the Command, Control, Communications, and Computers Directorate under the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Kellogg previously served as acting national security advisor to Trump and as chief of staff and executive secretary of the National Security Council.
