Report: Asia-Pacific Cybersecurity Chiefs Expect Major Attack on Critical Infrastructure

More than two-thirds of Asia-Pacific cybersecurity leaders believe there will be a major successful attack on multiple countries’ critical infrastructure in the next two years, according to a survey from Black Hat Asia.

Sixty-seven percent of respondents, all cybersecurity professionals, believe a successful attack across multiple countries is imminent, and 52 percent believed such an attack would take place in their own country.

Despite increasing concerns about ransomware, only 19 percent of respondents believed this was a top concern in the next two years, although 38 percent of security professionals highlighted its increase as the top threat in the past year. Over half of the APAC cybersecurity leaders also said that a lack of funds would hamper their ability to respond to major threats.

Twenty-three percent of respondents in the survey believe that cyber espionage by large nation-states poses the greatest threat to APAC’s critical infrastructure and 21 percent believed potential attacks by organized crime groups were the biggest threat.
