Three Mexican Banks Targeted by Cyber Attackers

Three Mexican banks were targeted Friday by cyber attackers trying to penetrate their electronic payment systems, according to Bloomberg Technology.

Bloomberg reports that Banco de Mexico, Grupe Financiero Banorte and Banco del Bajio SA all reported issues. Banco de Mexico confirmed in a statement that they had had problems operating the SPEI, Mexico’s interbank electronic transfer system, and would be connecting to the bank under “contingency schemes.”

Grupe Financiero Banorte confirmed there had been an incident but said it had been resolved by Friday afternoon, via a tweet. Banco del Bajio confirmed that they had been asked to connect to the SPEI via an alternate method, but said no client money was affected.
