Carol Cwiak Recognized with Kay C. Goss Innovation Award in Emergency Management

Carol Cwiak, Associate Professor and Internship Coordinator at North Dakota State University’s Department of Emergency Management has been awarded the Kay C. Goss Innovation and Technology Award from Arkansas Tech University’s Department of Emergency Management.

Carol Cwiak, Associate Professor and Internship Coordinator at North Dakota State University’s Department of Emergency Management has been awarded the Kay C. Goss Innovation and Technology Award from Arkansas Tech University’s Department of Emergency Management.

The award is given to those with a record of regular participation in the Annual FEMA Higher Education Symposium who have achieved outstanding teaching effectiveness both within and outside the classroom using emerging technologies. Awardees also demonstrate the ability to inspire, promote and develop emergency management programs, professors, and students through innovative methods. In addition, they make professional contributions to the field of emergency management.

The Kay C. Goss Award for Innovation and Technology is presented every year at the Annual FEMA Higher Education Conference at the Emergency Management Institute, Emmitsburg, MD, sponsored by Arkansas Tech University.

Kay C. Goss is President of World Disaster Management, LLC and has a long history of government service, education and accreditation. Kay currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Council on Accreditation of Emergency Management Education, and is a Senior Fellow for the National Academy of Public Administration, specializing in emergency management and intergovernmental relations. She has also authored five books and hundreds of articles on emergency management.

Carol Cwiak began teaching courses in the Emergency Management Program at North Dakota State University in 2003. She is a FEMA/DHS certified trainer for Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), Disaster Resistant Jobs, and Multi-hazard Emergency Planning for Schools. Like Goss, Cwiak has written extensively on emergency management and is deeply involved with FEMA’s higher education projects.
