Public Safety Cadets Announce First National Leadership Academy

The Public Safety Cadets (PSC) first in-residence Leadership Academy will be held August 4-10, 2019, in Fairfax, Virginia just outside of Washington DC. The Academy will provide 100 Cadets with interactive workshops, dynamic speakers, physical fitness, and field trips around the National Capital Region all building upon leadership lessons taught throughout the week. Cadets will visit the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, the National Law Enforcement Museum and the African American Museum of History and Culture, and take part in a leadership-lessons walking tour of monuments in Washington DC. The Academy is hosted by the Fairfax County Police Department and co-sponsored by the George Mason University Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy and the George Mason University Police.

Each registered PSC Unit is allotted one spot to send a Cadet of their choosing. Additional Cadets will be competitively selected until capacity is reached. Cadets and/or their sponsoring Units are responsible for travel to and from Fairfax, Virginia and a $100 registration fee, and scholarships are available for those who cannot afford these costs. Cadets will be housed in air-conditioned dorms on the campus of George Mason University, and meals are included.

The focus of the 2019 Academy is leadership—and failures of leadership—in law enforcement. While attending the Academy, Cadets will also learn about a variety of law enforcement career opportunities.

Members must submit an application to the PSC national office no later than May 15, 2019. Cadets will be notified of acceptance by June 1, 2019.
