Lockheed Martin Delivers 2,000th Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile to the US Air Force

Lockheed Martin (LMT) recently delivered the 2,000th Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM®) to the US Air Force.

Completed under the 12th production lot, the 2,000th missile is a baseline JASSM. Lot 12, which began production inJanuary 2016, includes 150 baseline JASSM cruise missiles and 60 JASSM-Extended Range (ER) missiles.

"US and allied warfighters rely on JASSM and JASSM-ER missiles as vital capabilities in their short- and long-term strategic defense plans," said Jason Denney, program director of Long-Range Strike Systems at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. "JASSM and JASSM-ER are the only long-range, all-weather, stealthy cruise missiles capable of defeating high value, well-defended current and future threats."

Recent program milestones include a $116 million contract option for JASSM-ER and a contract from the US Air Force to support additional integration of JASSM onto the Polish Air Force F-16C/D aircraft.

Armed with a penetrating blast-fragmentation warhead, JASSM and JASSM-ER can be used in all weather conditions. They share the same powerful capabilities and stealth characteristics, though JASSM-ER has more than two-and-a-half times the range of JASSM for greater standoff distance. These cruise missiles employ an enhanced digital anti-jam GPS receiver and infrared seeker to dial into specific points on targets.

Effective against high-value, well-fortified, fixed and relocatable targets, JASSM is integrated on the US Air Force’s B-1B, B-2, B-52, F-16 and F-15E. The B-1B also carries JASSM-ER. Internationally, JASSM is carried on the F/A-18A/B and the F-18C/D aircraft. Produced at the company’s manufacturing facility in Troy, Alabama, more than 2,700 JASSM missiles have been ordered through Lot 14.
