Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem announced $11.4 million in additional disaster relief funding for recovery projects in Ruidoso, New Mexico, following floods in July that killed three people.
The new funding was announced during Secretary Noem’s visit to Ruidoso, the community most impacted by the floods. Earlier, DHS had announced $3.1 million in initial aid to the state, along with the deployment of more than 160 emergency management staff. Following President Trump’s approval of both an Emergency Disaster Declaration and a Major Disaster Declaration, an additional $2.9 million was released to assist families in recovery efforts.
“Under the Trump Administration, FEMA is faster and more responsive than ever,” said Secretary Noem. “We’re seeing that in Ruidoso, and we will stand with New Mexico until full recovery is achieved.”
In July, sudden heavy rainfall caused the Rio Ruidoso to rise 20 feet in just 30 minutes, claiming three lives and causing widespread damage.
According to DHS, the latest funding will support infrastructure repairs, debris removal, and assistance for families working to rebuild.
