Parents’ Critical Role in Keeping Children Safe Online

The Invictus Project, a nonprofit that partners with law enforcement to combat the exploitation and trafficking of children in the community, was featured on Fox8 WGHP, a local news station in High Point, North Carolina.

Whitney Miller, Vice President of Development, spoke on the critical role parents play in keeping their children safe online.

“We as parents have to be educated so we can have those conversations,” she stated. “But more than anything, being actively engaged with our kids. That is where it is really the most important piece.”

She stressed the need for parents to be informed about the online dangers their kids face, which can start as early as 8-9 years old.

“Our kids are exposed to these things very early on. We have to have those conversations early on,” Miller explained. By building open communication and trust, parents can ensure their children feel comfortable coming to them if they encounter anything concerning online.

While continuous communication is key, Miller also recommends setting parental controls on children’s devices and monitoring their online usage to ensure they are staying safe.
