New Infographic Shows Scope of Response to Hurricanes

A new infographic has been published by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that shows the huge response to hurricanes Irma and Maria last year.

Just 183 days after Hurricane Maria made landfall, 26 mission assignments have been issued by FEMA, at a cumulative cost of $2.8 billion in Puerto Rico. Statistics are similar in the U.S. Virgin Islands, with 25 mission assignments issued at a cost of $254 million.

The infographic highlights the great efforts from responders, with 93.4 percent of customers in Puerto Rico now having power restored, and 96 percent of assigned debris removed after Hurricane Maria as well as 94 percent removed after Hurricane Irma.

Hurricanes Irma and Maria were among the five costliest in U.S. history, with Maria causing $90 billion worth of damage and Irma causing $50 billion.
