Nicholas J. Visconti, a dedicated former Deputy Chief for the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), passed away on September 20, 2024, at the age of 80 at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital in Southampton, NY. Born on September 2, 1944, in the Bronx, NY, Nicholas was the son of the late Nicholas Gerard Visconti and Angelina (Cirigliano) Visconti.
Mr. Visconti dedicated more than three decades of service to the FDNY, rising through the ranks to become a Deputy Chief, a position in which he displayed unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of New York City’s residents. His work with the Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA) further solidified his legacy as a compassionate and courageous leader.
As the city faced immense loss and devastation in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Mr. Visconti played an integral role in leading recovery efforts at Ground Zero. His leadership and resolve during this challenging time were instrumental in the World Trade Center recovery operations, where he worked alongside colleagues to support the rebuilding of the city. Mr. Visconti was revered within the FDNY not only for his operational excellence but also for his role as a mentor to young firefighters and first responders, imparting wisdom and guidance to the next generation.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Visconti was known for his generosity and active involvement in his community. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, deeply dedicated to his family. Mr. Visconti volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was an active member of the Black Rock Fish & Game Club. His passion for youth sports led him to coach Little League Baseball and Softball, where he supported not only his own children but also countless young athletes. As a grandfather, Mr. Visconti was a constant presence on the sidelines, cheering for his grandchildren from New York to Colorado.
